Honeybees gather propolis, a resin, from tree bark and leaves. The resins are brought back to the hive and honeybees combine these resins with nectar, creating a mix of wax, pollen and bee bread. Honeybees use this substance to seal their hives, protecting it from predators and outside contaminants, they also use propolis to sterilize the hives against infection. Propolis reinforces the hive and protects the hive. Therefore, it also called "bee glue".
